Peanut butter & jelly (err…jam…) sandwiches will never be the same! This Triple Berry Chia Seed Jam is too easy NOT to make, y’all. Literally: frozen fruit of choice (in this case, frozen berries), agave syrup, chia seeds, and vanilla. It’s basically the best thing ever!
Is Chia Seed Jam Healthier than Regular Jam (Jelly)?
Oh yes, chia seed jam is so much healthier because it’s the chia seeds that thicken the jam and not a ton of white refined sugar. This chia jam has a fraction of the amount of sugar that’s in traditional jam and better yet the only sweetener I use other than the fruit itself is agave syrup so it’s natural, healthy and delicious.
There are 2 ways to make this delicious Triple Berry Chia Seed Jam:
- Blend everything together, then bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Let simmer for about 7 minutes, then place in mason jars and let cool before refrigerating.
- Heat up the frozen or thawed berries until they are soft. Smash them as you mix in the honey and bring to a boil. Lower heat, add in vanilla and chia seeds, simmer for about 7 minutes. Place in mason jars and let cool!
As you will see in the recipe below, the second approach is my preferred method. This is mainly because I’m a lazy busy girl who doesn’t feel like having to wash the blender….so the second approach is one less thing to clean up. 😉 Yeah.
I don’t know what it is about cleaning the blender, but it is one of my LEAST fave things to do (more on that in the Banana Cashew Butter Chia Seed Smoothie post). However, if you prefer a smoother texture, you might want to create this Triple Berry Chia Seed Jam recipe using the first method!
No Need for Special Canning
All I do is simply place the jam in mason jars and use these canning storage lids (they’re my FAVE)! Once you’ve made it and have it in the fridge, it’s great for peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, yogurt (hello Healthy Fruit, Yogurt, and Granola Breakfast Bowl recipe!), oatmeal, and so much more! It’s also a great way to add nutrients to your meals and even desserts! I’m obsessed with this stuff. I love keeping it on hand!
