Last weekend we went out of town to see Cody’s family, play with the symphony (random fact about me: I play violin in a symphony back home!), and see old friends. It was glorious, restful, and refreshing in just about every way possible! But I can assure you that I didn’t pick up a single fruit or vegetable the entire time I was there. Ok, wait, I think I did eat a steamed carrot at one point. Other than that, our meals consisted of burgers, fries, protein bars (that road trip life, ya know?), and home cooked southern goodness.
Needless to say, the day I got back in town it was more than time for some veggies!
One of my favorite ways to load up on veggies (after neglecting them all weekend, which I am guilty of more than I’d like to admit at this moment) is with a smoothie. It’s a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck! And since we only have ONE other smoothie that includes vegetables here on Jar Of Lemons (hey hey Turmeric Pineapple & Kiwi Kale Smoothie), this Orange Carrot Basil Smoothie sounded like the perfect addition!
This Orange Carrot Basil Smoothie is perfect for loading up on nutrients and delicious flavors at the same time!
Creamy coconut milk, sweet orange, wholesome carrots, and heavenly Dorot Basil! The best of all worlds.
I know what you guys might be thinking: basil? really?? TRUST me on this one, friend. It’s the best ever! Not only does the basil take it to another level on the taste scale, but Dorot makes it easier than ever to use herbs like this one in every day recipes. The basil that I used is actually fresh, but then flash frozen within 90 minutes of harvest. In other words: easy to use basil cubes that you can just pop out and put into your recipes!
For someone who despises using cutting boards and washing extra dishes (ahem, ME), Dorot products are a dream come true. They’re incredibly easy to use and perfect for a recipe like this Orange Carrot Basil Smoothie!
I bought my Dorot Basil at Trader Joes (anyone else obsessed with that place??), so be sure to head there to try them out! You can also visit the Dorot website to learn more about their amazing products and try them out for yourself. I’m tellin’ ya, they’re life saving! Just pop ’em out and throw ’em in your recipe, and you’re good to go! Just the right amount, just the right flavor, and so so easy.
Although this Orange Carrot Basil Smoothie recipe involves Dorot Basil, I personally think that their Ginger cubes would be AMAZING as well. Someday I will try this, but for now, delicious basil it is!
Here’s how to make this smoothie: freeze coconut milk in an ice tray the night before. In the morning, simply blend carrots, oranges (peeled, of course), these Dorot Crushed Basil cubes, and the coconut milk ice cubes. That’s it! So delicious and so easy! 🙂
