Last week we made a just-for-fun trip to San Francisco, where we met up with Cody’s cousin (David) and explored the town. This was actually my very first time in Cali, so it was a big deal for me!
San Fran is beautiful! The weather is pretty much always perfect, the hills are gorgeous, the food…OH the food! 5 days just wasn’t enough.
Let’s talk about the unique beauty of these homes! I was completely amazed by the history of these colorful houses. We stayed just down the street from this photo, so the Airbnb we stayed at pretty much had this view. I told Cody that even though we live in the country (well…kind of…), we should TOTALLY build a 3 story pink victorian san fran house! Just like the famous Painted Ladies 🙂
For some reason, whenever I visit a new place I like to imagine what it would be like if we lived there. And I pretty much decided that if I lived in San Fran, I would need a car for 2 reasons only: to travel all over Cali, and to drive over these bridges. As much as possible. All the time.
Not only are they beautiful, but they’re a wonder to me!
One of the things that shocked me about San Fran was all of the different climates within the city! The weather there pretty much stays between 50-70 Fahrenheit…..but because of the windy bay, and the ocean, the area you’re in could mean a jacket and boots, or a tank top and shorts! Who knew temps could vary so much within a 7 mile radius?? I ended up having to buy a sweater, due to my unpreparedness. And shoes. And a purse. But anyway….
The bay was perfection. Despite me being used to warm Texas weather, I loved every second of it. Oh and if you’re wondering why I wore the same dress in almost all of these photos, it’s because our first day there we had the most perfect lighting ever! That day was super hazy, and we were like TAKE ALL THE PICTURES! That day we also went to the farmer’s market and enjoyed the best vegan waffles! Be on the lookout for our interview with one of the farmers…Farmer’s Market Finds October is coming soon!
Our 5th anniversary landed on the Thursday we were there and we joyfully celebrated with the best french cuisine at Zazie! Our only regret was that we didn’t have more time to come back for brunch!
As I’ve mentioned in this previous post, brunch is a way of life in San Fran. Our fave brunch places were Jane’s and Dottie’s! Avo toast, pancakes, granola parfaits…so many good things!
Annndddd…let’s talk about vacation eating, shall we? It is REALLY tough to eat right when you’re in vaca mode. It’s hard enough not having your home, groceries, and go-to’s. But then it’s like…I’m on break! Freedom!
I learned a few things on this trip. I went with semi-intentions to eat super healthy. But I also knew that I wanted to try “real” ramen for the first time (photo on my insta) and that San Fran is known for its food….so I found a middle ground. I shared almost everything with my husband, ate right as much as I could, and allowed myself to indulge when it was “worth it”! Some people can eat perfectly clean during vacation mode, but I believe that every person is different. What works for someone else might not work for me! I know that if I allow myself to completely splurge the entire time I’m on vacation, I will have undone several weeks of hard work. I also know if i force myself to stay on a strict regimen, I may not enjoy my time as fully as I could have. Balance is key!
What do you guys think about this? What is your go-to plan on vacation?
With all of the food splurging we did, I can testify that we for sure walked it all off! A beautiful morning hike in Mt. Davidson one morning and then about 8 miles a day of walking through the city. All I have to say is that I’m grateful Cody carried our backpack every day!
San Francisco, you’re a dream!
Have you ever been? What are your favorite spots?
