Before you even start cleaning your kitchen, a great way to save time is to put things away as you go throughout your day. Rinse dishes (that don’t need scrubbing) and place them in the dishwasher as you use them, throw napkins and other trash away, put things in their place as you pass by them.

Start out your daily kitchen cleaning with the dishes! Here are a couple of tips for knocking out the dishes in no time:

1. The dishwasher is your best friend

It really, really is. Our theory? Anything that can go in the dishwasher should in order to save time. Rinse or scrub as necessary, throw it in, and start the dishwasher!

This can really speed up the process!

Put away clutter and appliances

What is quinoa?

Quinoa is a healthy carb option that’s perfect for pairing with your choice of protein and vegetables! It can be used to replace rice in recipes, as it is higher in protein and healthy fiber.

Is quinoa a grain?

When it comes to healthy recipes, quinoa can be treated as a gluten-free grain. While quinoa is technically a seed, it is most often treated like it is a part of the grain family due to the way that it’s used and prepared!

How to cook quinoa

To cook quinoa so that it’s perfectly fluffy, use a 1:2 ratio. For example, 1 cup of quinoa should be cooked with 2 cups of water! Bring the water to a boil, add the quinoa and salt (to taste), let cook for about 3-5 minutes. Lower the heat, cover, and continue to simmer for another 7-10 minutes.

The trip to perfectly cooked quinoa is to make sure that the quinoa has absorbed all of the water! One way to do this is to let the quinoa sit, covered, for an extra 3-5 minutes after removing from heat. Check the quinoa and use a fork or spatula to “fluff”. Serve and enjoy or refrigerate for easy meals throughout the week!

Other tips and tricks for cooking quinoa

1. You don’t always have to cook quinoa

You can also purchase pre-cooked quinoa that simply needs to be heated up or is ready to go! This is great if you’re on-the-go a lot or just don’t have the time to make homemade quinoa. Our favorite option is this one from Thrive Market!

2. Use the right size pot

A small, deep pot like this one is a great option for cooking quinoa!

3. Store quinoa in the refrigerator

Quinoa can be meal prepped and stored in the refrigerator all week long! Feel free to reheat it for warm meals or add it cold to salads.

How To Cook Quinoa

Want perfectly fluffy quinoa to go with your healthy weeknight dinners? Here’s how to cook quinoa perfectly every time!

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water
  • sea salt (to taste)
  1. Bring the water and quinoa to a boil.

  2. Add in the sea salt to taste and let boil for about 3-5 minutes.

  3. Lower the heat and cover with a lid.

  4. Continue to let simmer for about 7-10 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and let quinoa continue to sit (covered) for another 3-5 minutes, or until the quinoa has completely absorbed the water.

  6. Use a fork to fluff the quinoa, then serve and enjoy!

*Each serving is 1/2 cup cooked quinoa

Now, I do realize that the “lettuce” pictured in these photos is actually cabbage. That is what I had on hand when I made this recipe, so it’s what I used for these wraps! However, feel free to use romaine, butter, iceberg, or leaf lettuce for these wraps.

How to make lettuce wrap filling

The Thai Chicken filling for these lettuce wraps is so easy to make! Simply cook organic chicken (ground or cubed) in a skillet or pan, then set aside. Cook the mushrooms and peppers together, then add the chicken back in. Mix the Thai sauce and pour over the skillet, then top with green onions. Place the filling in washed lettuce and enjoy!

Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps that are easy to make and DELICIOUS! Perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner that the whole family will love.

  • 2 small chicken breasts
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tamari soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 large red bell pepper
  • 16 oz. mushrooms
  • salt/pepper
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • green onions (for garnish, optional)
  • cashews or peanuts (optional)
  1. Heat 1 Tbsp sesame oil in a skillet or pan over medium-high heat.

  2. Cube or mince the chicken and red bell pepper (separately).

  3. Cook the chicken in the skillet, then set aside.

  4. Add the remaining oil to the skillet and cook the mushrooms and red bell pepper for about 10-15 minutes (or until soft).

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. While everything is cooking, combine the vinegar, soy sauce, peanut butter, ginger, crushed red pepper, honey, and garlic to create a sauce.

  7. Set aside 1/2 cup of the sauce.

  8. Add the chicken back into the skillet and pour the sauce over the entire dish, continuing to cook for about 10 minutes.

  9. Place the Thai chicken filling in each lettuce wrap.

  10. Pour the additional sauce over each wrap.

  11. Garnish with chopped green onions and cashews or peanuts.

  12. Serve and enjoy!
