Spanish Rice & Beans

Savory rice combined with red beans and the perfect amount of spices. This quick and easy Spanish Rice & Beans recipe only takes about 30 minutes to make!

  • 2 Tbsp avocado oil or any cooking oil
  • 2 cups brown rice see notes for white rice
  • 3 cups vegetable broth
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp onion flakes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp dried cilantro
  • 2 cups red kidney beans
  • salt/pepper to taste


  • Cook the rice in the oil over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, or until slightly browned.
  • Add in the broth and allow to simmer, covered, for about 17-20 minutes (or until the rice absorbs the liquid and is fluffy).
  • Add in the tomato sauce and stir.
  • Add in the spices and stir.
  • Add in the beans and continue cooking for about 5 minutes (or until everything is evenly warm).
  • Serve and enjoy!


*White rice takes less cooking time, about 12-15 minutes.
