Chick fil A Chicken Sandwich Recipe (spicy!)

This Spicy Chicken Sandwich Recipe is everything you love about the classic Chick-fil-A version, but made healthier and right at home! Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, this easy recipe comes together in under an hour with simple ingredients. I’ve been testing copycat versions for a while, and this recipe has that perfect crunchy and juicy bite. And since it's baked instead of fried, most of the cooking time is hands-off. I love this recipe for an easy weeknight dinner!

Equipment

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 medium boneless skinless chicken breasts about 1 1/2 pounds

For the Sauce

For the Sandwich

  • 6 whole wheat hamburger buns
  • dill pickle chips
  • sliced tomato
  • romaine lettuce or kale

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with avocado oil spray.
  • In a shallow wide bowl, whisk the eggs and sriracha.
  • In a separate large bowl, crush the Chex by hand or pulse in a food processor, until it resembles very small crumbs.
  • Mix with the salt, cayenne, chili powder, garlic powder, paprika and pepper.
  • Slice each chicken breast in half horizontally so it creates 2 thin pieces of chicken. You will end up with 6 pieces of chicken total.
  • Dip a piece of chicken in the egg mixture, then transfer to the seasoned-crushed Chex and coat all sides of the chicken. Let any excess crumbs fall off the chicken, and transfer the chicken to the prepared pan. Repeat with all chicken pieces.
  • Bake at 425°F for 18 minutes. Then, remove the pan from the oven and flip each piece of chicken. Bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.

Make the Sauce

  • While chicken is cooking, mix all sauce ingredients in a medium bowl.

Assemble the Sandwiches

  • Lower the oven temperature to 350°F, then toast the hamburger buns on a baking sheet for about 10 minutes.
  • Let the buns cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then spread the sauce onto the bottom of each bun. Top with a slice of tomato, lettuce, the crispy chicken, and the top of the bun.

Notes

  • To Cook in the Air Fryer: Bread the chicken as usual. Then, air fry it at 400°F for 14–16 minutes or until fully cooked, flipping halfway through. Work in batches as needed so as not to overcrowd the basket! There should be a little space between each piece.
  • Add your favorite sandwich condiments to make this recipe your style. Ex: roasted red peppers, hot sauce, hummus
