As you've probably noticed, I'm just a little bit obsessed with food. It's basically the best thing ever! Growing up on junk food, it was tough for me to transition to a healthy eating lifestyle. At first I went "cold turkey", counting calories to the extreme, obsessing over everything I ate (in a SUPER unhealthy way). My diet basically ruled my life. And speaking of diets, I had pretty much tried every single extreme diet out there! I had no joy and felt chained to an unhealthy relationship with food and fitness.
So what changed? To be completely honest, it was a combination of things. First, I grew in my relationship with Christ and learned that when I put him first, the obsession with being perfect fell away. Which leads into the second thing I learned: being happy with your body! The self-image struggle is REAL and it wasn't until I accepted myself and the way God created me that I was able to be free from it. And thirdly, I accepted the fact that I LOVE food! It's my passion, so why would I ever try to quench that? Instead of obsessing over how bad my fave foods are (Shoutout to my pizza and donuts!), I learned to create healthier versions of them as well as enjoy the "bad" stuff in moderation. And if it's good for your soul, then it's really not bad for you in moderation anyway!
