If we’re friends over on Instagram, then you may have already seen the big update along with a photo of us standing on our, well, dirt. We are building a house!!!
While we love our 1925 Bungalow, Edna The House, our family has outgrown the small space and are needing something just a tad bigger. After looking around for homes for a while and seeing how much we would need to remodel, we decided to take the leap and build a new home instead!
The Inspiration
Let’s just jump right in to the good stuff, shall we?? As you can imagine, I’m already dreaming about my kitchen and the style of the home. The problem? I love soooo many styles. Committing to just one (or even a few) will be tough. But hey, that’s a pretty good problem to have and we are so grateful that we get to have this opportunity!
We chose our builder and have our design meeting in a week or so, and that will determine so many things as far as the direction and style goes. Here are a few of my favorite things that I’m dreaming about so far!
There’s a beautiful, old, white-brick Tudor across the street from us that I’ve ALWAYS admired. So that’s my inspiration for the exterior! Although I’ve been really really loving the look of darker homes, red brick, and stone lately, I think I need to go with my gut and the style I’ve been wanting for so long.
I have so many ideas for the kitchen (of course!!) and dining! I love the look and feel of stained wood for cabinets and big grid windows. As far as countertops go, I have NO idea! I also initially wanted built-in shelves in the dining room, but I think we may go with a custom-built hutch instead. Oh and I absolutely love arches in hallways, main areas, and wherever possible! That’s something we have in our current house that I definitely want to carry over into our new one.
What are your favorites? I’ll definitely be sharing more about the new home and our process as we go through it over the next year. Stay tuned, friends!

Hope your process is a glorious one.
I had a home built recently as well and got exactly what I wanted. Had wanted to be an architect since a child. So many ideas filled my head and heart.
Stick with what you want for yourselves as you progress. Have fun. Appreciate each person that makes a contribution to your new home. Ask questions. Know it’ll be perfect.

This is great advice!! I always wanted to be an architect, too, so this is definitely making my dreams come true 🙂 Love that you got exactly what you wanted! Thank you for your kind words 🙂
