Our little guy burst into the world several weeks ago and is growing like crazy! While at first he spent lots of time sleeping, he’s finally starting to spend more time awake. He’s changed so much and now spends his awake time looking at us, smiling, and of course, crying. 😉 Something that has been really fun over the past couple of weeks is getting to graduate from countertop sponge baths to bathing our little guy in an infant tub and establishing a baby bath time routine! It does make it easier giving babies a bath when you have large double ended bath tubs. I’m of course no expert in the matter, but today I’d love to share our baby’s bath time routine with you guys! This is what has worked for us (and is still ever changing as he grows).

Establishing a bath time routine:
Decide how often and when to bathe your baby
Our pediatrician told us to bathe him every three days, so that’s what we’ve stuck to! Although, by that third day I’m pretttttty ready for him to have that bath, haha. We’ve tried bathing him at different times of the day, but we’ve noticed that he seems to sleep better if he takes his bath at night around bedtime. The two go hand in hand!
Since Atlas eats every 2-3 hours, it helps to bathe him between feedings (after a late evening feeding but before his bedtime feeding). This typically ends up happening around 8-9pm for us. Which leads me to the next step:
Bathe baby after a feeding! Or before.
For us, it seems like Atlas has the best bath times on a full belly. We’ve tried bathing him before (in order to feed him right before bedtime), but it made for a pretty fussy bath. Bathing after a feeding has transformed our bath times from a chore to a fun bonding time with our little one!
Have everything ready beforehand.
Have the bathtub, towels, soap, toys, and everything you need ready to go before grabbing baby and preparing him/her for the bath! Another thing that has helped us is to have the water temperature set and ready.
Use the right products for your baby.
Little Atlas seems to have pretty sensitive skin, so finding the right products for our bath time routine was essential! We started using Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Tip to Toe Wash and have absolutely loved it. It’s gentle, made with 100% skin-natural nutrients, free of dyes, parabens, phthalates or sulfates, fragrance-free and hypoallergenic – perfect for our little one’s sensitive skin.
Make bath time fun!
This is something that has shifted for us over the past few weeks. At first, bathing Atlas felt more like a chore and something to check off our nightly to-do list. Now that he’s becoming more responsive and awake, we love making his baths a time to connect with him! Making bath time fun has been a game changer for us.
Create an after bath time routine.
We typically wash his hair as a last step in our baby’s bath time routine. For some reason, Atlas absolutely hates this part! Sadly, that means our bath times typically end in lots of tears (at least during this phase). Something that has helped us out is to have an after bath time routine available for him! This includes snuggling him up in his baby towels, giving him lots of hugs and kisses, and then giving a little baby massage with lotion.
Since his skin is also pretty dry, we love using Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture Baby Lotion after his baths. It’s great for moisturizing his skin for 24 hours, it’s hypoallergenic and pH neutral, and it’s also fragrance-free. It’s perfect for our little guy!
