As you can imagine, the thing that I am probably the most excited in our house building journey is our future kitchen. Not only because we get to design it and I’m all about pretty kitchens (I mean, who isn’t??), but also because we are in desperate need of more cabinet and counter space!
As a food blogger and someone who spends A LOT of time in the kitchen, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to make it something that’s our own. I’ve shared a few updates about our overall style inspiration for the new house, but today I’m so pumped to share a few kitchen inspiration photos with you guys!

The New House: Latest Update
We’ve had our initial design meetings, and have been preparing the lot for foundation. Things have been a little slow lately, but I have a feeling they will pick up soon! Initially we had said that we would be moving in at the end of the year, but as behind as we are and with the shortage of materials, I wonder if it will actually be early next year.
But that’s fine! It gives us more time to get our current home (good ‘ol Edna The House) ready to sell and I’d rather make the move in the early spring rather than winter anyway.
The New Kitchen Inspiration
Something I’ve been LOVING lately (thanks to these 2021 Kitchen Trends!) are warmer tones. The look and feel of natural or stained cabinets is really drawing me in! As far as countertops go, I really cannot decide what’s best. We currently have butcher block countertops that are really pretty, but a bit of work to maintain. So I’m thinking something on the lower maintenance side!

I’m really loving the mix of lighter countertops and really dark countertops in different areas of the kitchen. Also, anyone else as obsessed as I am with that magnificent marble backsplash and vent hood over the stove? Not sure if this would be a possibility in our kitchen, but I love how it looks.

And last but not least, my fave image of all here below. Love the detail on the cabinets, the different countertops, the gold and brass accents, the marble black splash….so many pretty things!
What’s your favorite kitchen style lately? What type of countertops would you go with? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! I’ll keep you guys posted as we move forward and we begin to have a design finalized!
Laurence says:
My favourite kitchens are Studio McGee (left photo) and Amber interiors. I think the stove is a little too far from the countertop on the right photo of Studio MC Gee. Less practical. I would go for a concrete countertop for an industrial look. Not sure about the marble backsplash. It reminds me of a bathroom. Perhaps a concrete, brick or glass mosaic tiles backsplash would work.
Marianne Rice says:
I will tell you these are all gorgeous options, but don’t go with a stone or cement floor, especially with you in the kitchen constantly. It will wreck havoc on your feet and legs. I know from being a picture framer standing on cement all day. Even though we had industrial grade anti fatigue mats. I pay to this day. Feet, knees, back. Surgery in the future too. Not complaining, it was the best job in the world. Just being pragmatic and warning you.
Christine McMichael replied:
Ok, soooo good to know! Thank you for your input. I think we’re leaning towards wood floors, but this is definitely good to know. So sorry you’re having to deal with that!!
