It’s been about 2 weeks since we got back from our trip to Puerto Vallarta/Bucerías, Mexico! We FINALLY unpacked this last weekend (sad, I know, I KNOW). But to be honest, I just want to return it all to my suitcase and go back for another round! The beach, the ocean, the sun, the resort, the city, the food, the locals…..it’s almost too good to be true!
We stayed in Bucerías, which is a hidden GEM! Most people stay in Puerto Vallarta, but it’s a tourist hot spot (Exhibit A: Cody and I being total tourists in Puerto Vallarta👇🏻). Both areas are beautiful, but Bucerías is filled with a local culture and energy that makes you feel like you’re home!
While we were there, we pretty much spent our time embracing the fullness of serenity and laying in the sun all day (with tons of sunscreen, why of course!). Each evening we walked about a mile on the beach to the square, where local vendors set up tons of shops and food carts. Our dinners every night consisted of one thing: TACOS! So. Many. Tacos. It’s a good thing we were forced to walk so much!
We ended up becoming friends and getting to know one of the local women that made the BEST fish tacos. We definitely ate there almost every day. These fish tacos ended up inspiring me to create the Spicy Salmon Tacos w/ Avocado Lime Dressing recipe!
One of the nights we were there, we went to an AMAZING restaurant in the La Cruz area (right by Bucerías) called Xocolatl. They had the best food and environment for our date night! I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re planning a vacation in this area 🙂

Now let’s just talk about vacation food for a second. These are my personal thoughts on it, and at the end of the day, you have to do what’s right for YOUR body! Since we go on big vacations like this about 2-3 times a year at the most, I’m super ok with splurging on food. Especially when there’s unique, local cuisine to be enjoyed! However, I do still believe that everything should be done in moderation and that overeating doesn’t equal enjoying vacation food. All that to say: I ate some fish tacos, ya’ll! It’s all about balance!
And when you have to walk a mile on the sand to get to your vacation food splurge, it makes it that much more worth it 😉
We also took a day trip excursion while we were there to a small island in the area called Las Caletas! There they had a ton of water activities like snorkeling, paddle board, kayaking, and tons of beautiful beach to lay out on!
There are also a ton of amazing resorts in Bucerías and Puerto Vallarta. The one that we stayed at was small and super chill, just the way I like to vacation!
AND we were also able to shoot a fun beach workout while we were there, too (CHECK IT: Beach-Ready Total-Body Workout)!
OH! Did I mention that traveling to the Puerto Vallarta/Bucerías area of Mexico is a relatively affordable vacation? Which just makes it that much more awesome. We will definitely be returning soon!

So I’m going to Mexico City in 2 weeks and when I saw the headline of your post I had to click it. Granted, not the same city, but still it’s Mexico. I really loved the photos and the fact that you splurged on FOOD (food blogger here), yeah you get cool points. Great post!!
