Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip Ingredients
Cooked Chicken – Rotisserie chicken or leftover cooked chicken is perfect for this healthier buffalo chicken dip recipe. Another option is to cook chicken breasts and shred the chicken before making this recipe!
Hot Sauce – Any type of hot sauce you like! Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, Cholula, Tabasco, and even Sriracha are all great options (but beware of the different spicy levels of each one)!
Garlic & Onion – I used minced garlic and onion powder for this recipe, but garlic powder also works great.
Apple Cider Vinegar – The tangy flavor of apple cider vinegar brings this homemade buffalo sauce to life!
Sour Cream – Light sour cream adds a creamy texture that’s sooooo good.
Greek Yogurt – Plain Greek yogurt adds to the creamy texture, while also adding protein and nutrition!
Cheese – Shredded cheddar cheese is mixed into the Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip and then added on top for an extra-cheesy taste! Mozzarella cheese works too, but I personally really like the taste of cheddar cheese for this one.
Parsley – Fresh or dried parsley adds so much flavor.

Troubleshooting Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip
If your Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip didn’t turn out just right, don’t worry! Here are a few easy tips to fix (or prevent) common issues:
Too watery?
This can happen if there’s too much liquid in your chicken or if you’re using a yogurt that’s on the thinner side. Try using full-fat Greek yogurt (it’s thicker!) or letting the dip bake a few extra minutes uncovered to help it thicken up.
Too thick?
If it feels a little dry or hard to scoop, stir in a little extra Greek yogurt or a splash of milk before baking. You can also mix in a few spoonfuls of sour cream after baking to bring back that creamy texture.
Too spicy?
Try using a milder hot sauce next time, or balance it out with a little more sour cream or Greek yogurt. You can also top it with extra cheese to mellow out the heat!
Not spicy enough?
Craving more of a kick? Add more hot sauce, a pinch of cayenne pepper, or even chopped jalapeños to turn up the heat.
Cheese not melting?
Make sure you’re using a good quality shredded cheddar. Pre-shredded cheeses can sometimes have anti-caking agents that prevent smooth melting. Try grating your own for best results!
Dip separated or greasy?
This sometimes happens if there’s too much fat from cheese or sour cream. Stick with the suggested ratios and mix everything well before baking. It also helps to let the dip cool slightly before serving!
FAQs
Is Buffalo Chicken Dip Healthy?
This Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe is made healthier by using plain greek yogurt, light sour cream, and less cheese than the classic version.
What Can I Use Instead of Sour Cream?
Feel free to use more plain yogurt if you don’t have sour cream on hand! Whole milk yogurt works best, but any type is great, too. Another option is to use low-fat cream cheese (at room temperature)!
How Do I Adjust The Spicy Level?
The type of hot sauce you use determines how spicy this dip turns out to be! If you use sriracha, it’s going to be VERY spicy. However, Frank’s Hot Sauce (mild) is a great option for keeping the spicy level toned down!
