What is Acai?
Acai are purple grape-like berries that are found on palm trees in South American rainforests. They might be small but they pack a punch of healthy goodness from being high in fiber to being rich in antioxidants and vitamins including calcium and heart healthy fats.
Did I mention that they are incredibly delicious? Add acai berries to smoothies is one of my favorite ways of enjoying them and adding the superfood into my diet.
The beauty about acai bowls is that you can add whatever toppings you want, sit down and enjoy a few moments before the mad rush of the morning but or course you can simply enjoy it as a regular smoothie and take it on the go!
What Type of Acai Berries Should I Use?
Acai berries can come in many different forms; dried, frozen, and even in capsules. So what ones should you use to make an acai bowl?
For this recipe, I use frozen acai berries and it’s my favorite way to enjoy them in smoothies or breakfast bowls. When acai berries are frozen they not only have a deliciously smooth and creamy consistency when added to smoothies but they still contain a ton of nutrients and health properties.
Dried acai powder will also work if you want to add it to other fruits and yogurt but make sure you look out for a good quality powder as some might contain artificial colors and ingredients.
Although capsules can be a good way to add acai to your diets without adding it to smoothies it’s just not fun and they are normally really expensive and contain some sort of artificial ingredients..not good!
These 5-Minute Fall Acai Bowls are the perfect “go-to” breakfast or snack…or post workout recovery….or maybe even dinner, y’all! Anything can happen, right? 🙂
And anyway, we all know how crazy busy these fall mornings can get. We go straight from back-to-school season to the holidays in zero time! Most of us need something easy, quick, and deliciously seasonal for breakfast.

Top Tips for Making Acai Bowls
- Use frozen acai for this recipe it will give you the best flavor and texture
- I used plain Greek yogurt but plain yogurt would also work well just try choosing one that has a thick consistency
- Top with your favorite toppings
- The acai bowl will keep in the fridge for 1-2 days (without toppings) or you can freeze it in suitable containers.
- Why not try making the mixture into healthy freezer pops. Simple add to the mold and freeze until needed
