Today, I’m sharing a recipe that’s been a family favorite in our home for years: Chili Lime Steak Tacos with Mango Salsa, made effortlessly in the crock pot. As a busy mom, I know how important it is to have meals that are not only healthy but also loved by everyone at the dinner table and it seems that tacos are always a hit! That’s why this recipe is a lifesaver on hectic weekdays when you need something nutritious and delicious without spending hours in the kitchen.

Why You’ll Love These Simple Steak Tacos
- Crockpot Magic – The sirloin steak is cooked in your slow cooker for just 3 hours (or less), and the seasonings permeate every little bit of it! The meat comes out flavorful, juicy, and incredibly tender while you get to spend your time doing other things. It’s a win-win.
- No Marinating Required – Everything cooks right in the slow cooker, so you don’t have to worry about marinating the steak ahead of time!
- Unique – We eat a lot of tacos in our home, and sometimes the same flavor combos can get a little old. The fresh mango salsa is SO GOOD with the chili-seasoned steak and a welcome change to traditional taco flavors.
- Healthy – These tacos are higher protein and topped with a fresh fruit salsa that has vitamins and healthy fiber. You can be confident your family is being fueled with nutritious and satisfying ingredients!

Ingredients for Mango Salsa Tacos
The steak is seasoned and tossed in the crock pot, and the mango salsa comes together in just minutes. Here’s what you’ll need to make them:
Steak Tacos
- Sirloin Steak – Sirloin steak absorbs all the chili lime flavors, cooks well, and doesn’t dry out in the crock pot. You can substitute it with another cut of beef like flank steak or skirt steak, just make sure you slice the finished meat against the grain for tenderness.
- Lime Juice and Zest – The double whammy of lime flavor is achieved by using the juice and the zest together, which makes this meat so good! In a pinch, you can use bottled lime juice, just use 2.5 Tablespoons of the juice.
- Chili Powder – The chili flavor on the steak is delicious with the lime juice. For a smokey flavor, reduce the chili powder to 2 teaspoons and add 1 teaspoon of chipotle powder that’s made from smoked jalapeños.
- Garlic – Use fresh minced garlic or save time by using minced garlic from a jar. I love it and use it all the time!
- Salt/Pepper – I’ve included exact amounts but feel free to adjust it to your preferences.
- Avocado – I love adding sliced avocado to tacos for flavor and for the healthy fats they provide. It’s totally optional in this recipe though!
- Tortillas – I have been loving these 50/50 blended corn and flour tortillas. They’re chewy, taste so good, and have all good ingredients. Any tortillas your family loves will work for these tacos!
Mango Salsa Ingredients
- Mangos – The firm texture of red mangoes works well for this salsa recipe, but you can also use honey mangos for a sweeter salsa.
- Lime – Lime juice brings all the flavors together!
- Jalapeño – The fresh pepper flavor of the jalapeño is the perfect match for the sweet mango. You can also buy pre-chopped jalapeño to save time!
- Red Onion – I love the color and flavor red onions bring to the mango salsa, but white or yellow onions would work as well.
- Cilantro – Fresh cilantro is best for this salsa, but use dried cilantro in a pinch! I like the freeze-dried option from the store because it tastes most like fresh cilantro.
- Salt

How to Make Homemade Steak Tacos
The steps to make this taco recipe are so simple, and I know we can all use more simplicity in our lives! Here’s how to make Steak Tacos:
Slow Cooker Steak for Tacos
- Add the sirloin steak to the crockpot.
- Top the steak with the seasonings, lime juice, zest, and garlic, and rub all over until the meat is completely coated.
- Cook on high for 3 hours.
- Remove from the crockpot and slice thinly. Place the meat in the tacos and top with salsa and sliced avocado.
Mango Salsa for Tacos
(TIP: I love using a veggie chopper to make salsas. It goes so much faster!)
- In a medium bowl, add the diced mango, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro.
- Add the lime juice, and stir the salsa well.
- Add the salt and taste. Add more salt as needed.
- Top the tacos with the salsa.

Variations & Shortcuts for Chili Lime Steak Tacos
Here are a few other ways to use this recipe or make it even faster!
- Make it a Bowl – Instead of tortillas, add the Chili Lime Steak and Mango Salsa to a bowl of brown rice or Cilantro Lime Rice for a delicious bowl meal!
- Make it Lower Carb – I love using butter lettuce leaves as tortilla substitutes or you can top a big bowl of chopped, crunchy romaine with the steak and salsa for a twist on a taco salad. YUM!
- Make it Vegan – Portobello mushrooms would work great as a substitute in this recipe. Remove the stem and the gills from the underside of 4 portobello mushrooms and follow the same recipe.
- Cut Down On Time – Short on time? Use the same recipe and cook the steak in a skillet or grill over medium-high heat for 4 minutes on each side. Allow it to rest for a few minutes and then slice it. To cut down on time for the salsa, you can use freeze-dried jalapeños & cilantro, or add a dash of cayenne instead of the pepper altogether.
- Make it in the Oven – Cook the steak in a 9×13 pan at 325 degrees F for 1 hour.
Storing
Refrigerator: Store the steak and mango salsa in separate airtight containers for up to 4 days.
Freezer: Freeze the steak and mango salsa in separate airtight containers for up to 2-3 months!
Reheating: Microwave the steak for 1-2 minutes until evenly hot. You can also heat it in a skillet over medium heat. Refresh leftover salsa with a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
