There are lots of GREAT options out there, but some can be super high in calories. That’s not what I’m about. If I’m gonna splurge on calories, it’s going to be on pizza or donuts on a special occasion. But for the rest of the time, I need my protein bars to provide bang for their buck….as in high protein, for low calorie. And I’m gonna need them to taste good, too!
But, why is it so important to have high protein in your food regimen? This post by MyFitnessPal pretty much sums it up. In short, it keeps you full longer, makes you burn more calories, and helps you eat less calories. Whether you’re someone who is trying to lose weight by limiting calorie intake or someone who just wants to maintain and eat healthy, it’s important to get the right balance of carbs, fats, and proteins for your body and for your goals (which completely vary, person to person)!
So if you’re trying to lose weight, high protein and low calorie are the way to go in the protein bar world. High protein is ESSENTIAL for staying on track! Not to mention you’re doing yourself and others a favor by not allowing yourself to get all diet hangry. Nobody wants that.
1.) Quest Bars
I’ll just go ahead and say it. These are my ABSOLUTE favorite. They completely meet my requirements listed above 😉 Depending on the flavor, they have about 200 calories on average and about 20-25 grams of protein. They’re also SUPER high in fiber, which most of us lack. As in 50-70% of your daily fiber need! They also taste amazing. My favorite flavor is White Chocolate Raspberry or Cookies and Cream (with real chunks of white chocolate and oreos!), so to me they can be a healthy dessert too. If you heat up the Chocolate Brownie bar in the microwave for 10 seconds, it tastes just like a real brownie out of the oven! Win. You can buy these HERE!
2.) Luna Bars
There are lots of options with Luna Bars! Not only do they have several flavors, but they also have different types: Protein, regular, and fiber. They have other kinds but those are my fave. The protein bars have about 170-200 calories and 12-15 grams of soy protein (read about the different types of protein in this post!). The fiber bars are higher in fiber and lower in protein. My favorite ones as far as flavor goes are the regular ones. They have 170-200 calories too, but only 7-10 grams of protein. You must try the Lemon Zest and the Chocolate Dipped Coconut! Oh. My. Gosh.
3.) Kind Bars
These are super clean and raw! They range from 180-250 calories and 5-10 grams of protein. While they may not be the highest in protein, the protein comes straight from nuts and seeds and they use all natural ingredients. No “man-made” protein here! I truly appreciate this about these bars. My personal fave is the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt bar!
Also super clean and raw! They use dates to sweeten and hold the bars together, and a combination of nuts, grains, and seeds for protein. The Peanut Butter Cookie flavor is WHERE IT’S AT! Literally 3 ingredients. peanuts, dates, and sea salt. And the great thing is you can buy these in bulk at Costco or Sam’s! They are also crazy easy to make from scratch. 5.) Think Thin
These range, just like the others, in calories and protein. The taste is amazing, and there are so many flavors! Their protein comes from all natural ingredients. Also, they’re gluten free! Love these things. I highly recommend them! You can buy these HERE.
