2-Ingredient Homemade Magic Shell Recipe
Add this magic shell to EVERYTHING! Seriously, it is so good and beyond easy to make. My kids love it, too! I love adding this recipe to banana bites, cold ice cream, these buster chocolate bars, I even added it to a yogurt cup with some peanut butter and froze it for the ULTIMATE healthy snack/dessert. Even just dipping fresh strawberries, pineapple, or grapes in it is SO good.

Dark Chocolate Chips – Dark chocolate chips add such a delicious flavor to this recipe, but semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate work great, too. Easily make this recipe vegan by using vegan chocolate chips, instead!
Coconut Oil – This coconut oil is one of my favorites, but there are so many great options out there. Use room-temperature coconut oil if possible!

The method for making a chocolate magic shell is actually incredibly easy. Here’s how to put this recipe together:
- Place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl (I prefer glass).
- Melt it in the microwave for about 1 – 1.5 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
- Pour it over ice cream, bars, banana bites, or dip fresh fruit into it.
- Freeze it for 10-15 minutes (or longer), then enjoy!
Tip: Make sure to add a thin layer of magic shell chocolate to your fruit or ice cream so that it’s easy to bite through! If the amount of melted chocolate is too thick, it will freeze thick and be tough to bite through.
What To Do With Leftover Magic Shell
Have leftover melted chocolate sauce on hand? Here’s what you can do with it:
- Store it in an airtight container and freeze it for later. Melt it again when you’re ready to use.
- Dip fruit in it!
- Use it as an ice cream shell and top with sprinkles.
