Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe
If I was to only make one smoothie recipe again for the rest of my life, it would be this one. It’s the ULTIMATE classic healthy smoothie recipe, but made incredibly simple and flavorful with just a few ingredients.
One of my favorite things about this smoothie is how easy it is to customize! Add protein powder, more or less liquid, make it creamier, higher in protein, add toppings. The options are limitless! Or keep it simple with this 5 ingredients basic recipe. No matter how you make it, this refreshing smoothie is perfect for busy mornings or a post-workout frozen treat!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

- 8 Grams Protein – Without using protein powder!
- Filling & Refreshing – Naturally sweet and totally satisfying.

Ingredients in Strawberry Smoothie
There are two options for making a strawberry smoothie: Use frozen strawberries and fresh banana, or use fresh strawberries and frozen banana. Either way, this smoothie tastes amazing! Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- Frozen Strawberries
- Fresh Ripe Banana
- Chia Seeds
- Orange Juice
- Milk – I like to use regular dairy milk for more protein, but almond milk, soy, oat, cashew, or any plant-based milk option is great.
Why Add Chia Seeds to Smoothies?
They’re so great for you! Incorporating chia seeds not only adds a thick texture to the smoothie, but it also adds protein, fiber, and healthy fats (like omega-3s). When blended, they give smoothies a nice creamy consistency. I love that they add a nutritional boost without changing the flavor at all!

Watch How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This recipe is seriously SO easy. All you’ll need is a high-speed blender and 5 minutes to get started! Here’s how to make the BEST strawberry banana smoothie:
- Add Everything to a Blender – Toss the strawberries, banana, milk, orange juice, and chia seeds into a high-speed blender.
- Blend Until Smooth – Start slow, then turn it up until everything is creamy and fully blended.
- Serve & Enjoy – Pour into glasses and sip right away! Add toppings like extra chia seeds, sliced strawberries, or a dollop of Greek yogurt if you’d like.
Tip: Let the smoothie sit for a couple of minutes after blending—chia seeds will thicken it up just a bit more!

Tips for the BEST Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Did you know you can make a big batch of this smoothie and freeze the smoothies in mason jars? Then just thaw the smoothie in the fridge a few hours before or warm in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring until you get the right consistency.
- Use a ripe banana – the riper, the sweeter! This also makes the smoothie super creamy.
- Make this recipe into a smoothie bowl. Pour into a bowl and top with granola, fruit, and nut butter for a heartier meal!
- If you want a drinkable smoothie, feel free to thin out the texture by adding a little bit more milk and juice as needed.
- Feel free to add a scoop of vanilla protein powder for more protein!
Variations
Protein Strawberry Smoothie – Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese for even more protein!
Green Smoothie – Blend in a handful of spinach or kale. You won’t even taste it!
Tropical Twist – Swap strawberries for frozen pineapple or mango for a beachy vibe.
Berry Blend – Use a frozen berry medley for a mixed-fruit version.

Topping Ideas
- Sliced fresh strawberries or banana
- A sprinkle of chia seeds or flaxseeds
- Homemade Granola
- Drizzle of almond butter or peanut butter
- Unsweetened coconut flakes
- A spoonful of Greek yogurt
- Hemp hearts or crushed nuts for added protein
What to Do with Leftover Smoothie?
- Store it in the back of the fridge overnight. It’ll have more of a juice texture, but it’ll still taste great in the morning!
- Add rolled oats to it and store in the fridge to turn it into overnight oats. I love doing this on busy weeks!
- Freeze individual smoothies in mason jars and store for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw them for a few hours in the fridge or lightly warm/thaw them in the microwave, stirring often!
