Summer has arrived full force here in Texas. It seems to have come out of nowhere! Ok so maybe it just caught me by surprise…it IS June, after all. However, this hot weather has me craving a pool side or beach bum life almost every day!
Summer Dream: me spending every day by the beautiful blue pool, catching rays with this tropical turmeric Smoothie in hand. Summer Reality: me spending every day in my small kitchen, covered in flour, hair in a bun, no makeup, with this smoothie in hand. Meh, I’ll take it. 😉 ‘Tis the blogger life!
If, like me, spending every day at the pool is only but a dream for this summer, let this tropical turmeric smoothie take you there!
Is Turmeric Healthy?
Turmeric is a super healthy spice and is used for a whole lot of health benefits. It helps fight inflammation has high antioxidant properties and has also been linked to boosting brain function and fighting brain-related diseases.
So adding turmeric into your diet is always going to be a good thing and the easiest way to do it is by mixing it into this tropical pineapple turmeric smoothie!
This smoothie is great in the morning for breakfast, but I actually really love it as an afternoon pick-me-up. The first time I had it, I was surprised at the amount of energy it gave me!
Maybe it’s how amazingly good for you turmeric truly is? If you’re curious about finding out more about those health benefits, head over to my Vegan Turmeric Quinoa Power Bowls recipe to read about it! If you’ve never had turmeric, this is my favorite kind! I use it ALL of the time!
Also, I have a major confession to make: this was my first EVER kale smoothie! I know. Even I’m shocked. I have to admit I was super nervous about the kale flavor taking over, but as it turned out the kiwi balanced it out perfectly (which was a pleasant surprise)! So you’re consuming really good-for-ya stuff and can’t even tell!
What You Need to Make this Turmeric Smoothie
- Frozen Pineapple
- Turmeric
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Kiwi
- Banana Kale
The frozen pineapple really helps give a cool, thick and refreshing texture to the smoothie so if you don’t use frozen the end result will be much more juice like.
I also chose unsweetened almond milk because the fruit helps sweeten this smoothie. You can also choose another nut milk such as cashew or even coconut milk which would also work well.
Extra Tips for Making this Pineapple Turmeric Smoothie
- The pineapple can be swapped for mango, banana or apple just make sure they are frozen to keep the consistency right.
- If you don’t have kale spinach would work well.
- To create different colors in your smoothie as I have you need to blend the ingredients according to color separately. Add one half of the smoothie to a glass followed by the other half. You can also blend all ingredients together to speed things up.
- If you feel the smoothie isn’t sweet enough for you try adding a little honey to taste.
- Top the smoothie with homemade granola, nuts or seeds for added texture.
